COVID-19: we are still operating 24×7 for emergencies

Posted by on Aug 17, 2021 in Sumner Lifeboat News | No Comments

As a Coastguard unit, Sumner Lifeboat will continue to operate its 24×7 maritime search and rescue service throughout lockdown.

We ask everyone to follow the advice of the Government and Maritime New Zealand:

  • Do not do activities that may require search and rescue services. For example, do not go swimming, surfing, boating, hunting or tramping.
  • You can go for a walk, run or bike ride. Exercise is good for your mental health.
  • If you do go out, it must be on your own, or with your household bubble.
  • Keep a 2 metre distance. If you are unwell, do NOT go outside.

Coastguard is an essential lifesaving service and all units will continue to provide search and rescue and Coastguard Operations throughout this period. However, to ensure the safety of our volunteers and comply with health guidelines this will be completed on a reactive basis only with volunteers responding to major call outs and no active patrolling.

Please stay home and stay off the water for the time being.

Follow official health advice and practise social distancing to keep everyone safe.

For more updates and information please keep an eye on the official Covid-19 website.

Kia kaha team — we’ve done it before and we’ll do it again, to help beat the spread.
